When he learnt that child labour was being used to produce firecrackers, he denounced the use of crackers at a press conference launched by the UP Police recently in Lucknow. He also pointed out that if one took into account the total number of crackers burst during Diwali, it would amount to a phenomenal Rs 3,000 crore, which could be used more sensibly to eradicate poverty.
